Industrial (rhum industrielle) – raw material for this type of rum is molasses of sugar cane, from which previously removed the sugar. This method produces approximately 90% of all Roma in the world. It is considered the most effective for the sugar industry, because in the production process no waste. Ready sugar refining and sold separately, and pressed molasses make rum.
Tapia – obtained by recycling waste molasses. Naturally, this kind of rum is the least quality. It is produced only in a few third world countries for local consumption. On the export of such products is not.

Rums by country
Cuban rum. Tireless sailor and discoverer Christopher Columbus in the XV century, was brought to Cuba sugar cane, from which the locals learned how to make pretty heavy and tough to drink. In the late nineteenth century, Facundo Bacardi had thought to replace the traditional alambik the column is a continuous cycle, getting bright and light rum. This was the beginning of a new tradition “rematurely”. With time, the drink was learned far beyond the “island of Freedom”, he not only drank in its pure form, but also used as the basis of new cocktails, which were also destined to fame: Cuba Libre, Mojito, Havana Especial etc.
Today, Cuba produces more than 40 types of rum, but exports are only available five brands. On the Russian market the most well-known Santiago de Cuba and Havana Club.
Like any other rum, the Cuban version is made from waste sugar cane – molasses. Black sweet molasses, the yeast is added, and the resulting home brew is subjected to double distillation. Ready alcohol diluted to fortress 50-55 degrees and left to Mature in oak barrels (new or sherry). The aging period varies from a few weeks to 25 years, and the older the drink, so it is darker and stronger.
- White (minimum exposure);
- Gold (extract 1-2 years);
- Dark (aging in charred barrels for 3 years);
- Aged (extract 5-12 years, rarely longer).
Famous brand: Bacardi (historically, this rum is Cuban, although manufacturing has long been located outside of the country), Havana Club, Mulata, Caney, Legendario, Santero, Varadero. In barrels with the original rum Guayabita del Pilnar added dried guava (tropical fruit).
Jamaican rum. Discovered by Columbus, Jamaica almost five hundred years, sugar remained a colony first of Spain and then England. Rum, as a by-product of sugar production, became popular in the XVII century, and today in this alcohol, in fact, rests the whole economy of the island.
Jamaican rum option is not easy or refined bouquet: this is a strong heavy drink with a deep, rich flavor and cool in nature.
- The traditional method of production (double distillation in alembic).

Spanish rum. Despite the fact that Spain sugar cane (and hence the distillate of molasses) appeared earlier than in the Caribbean colonies, rum did not become Spaniards “the number one drink”. Probably because the country has successfully flourished the vine, rough and unrefined rum could not compete with fine wines.
It is not surprising that until the mid-nineteenth century, rum was considered the drink of the poor. The situation changed already familiar Facundo Bacardi, to learn to distill is light, bright and high-quality beverage from the juice or molasses of sugar cane. Not to say that it was an act of altruism: the Spanish crown became seriously concerned with the problem of improving the quality of local alcohol and promised a handsome reward to the successful inventor.
Today Spanish rum taste is very close to the Cuban, and the term is often used to refer to varieties produced in the territory of any of the former colonies of the Kingdom or Spanish-speaking lands. In Spain there are private plantations of sugar cane, which produces high-quality rum without any of the characteristics of the flavor or nuances of the bouquet that does not prevent individual brands to dilute the line of classic varieties of spicy brands marked Spiced.

Like Cuba, the Dominican rum comes in white, gold, dark and aged, but the classic list adds two more types:
- Flavored is a relatively recent modification of the time-tested recipe. In the distillate of molasses added fruit juice, perfume, spices and sweeteners. In fact, get ready the rum cocktail.
